THURSDAY 9/06/19 - ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMALSToday students were given a different worksheet on adding and subtracting decimals. Today, I did every problem with them as a whole group and explained EXACTLY what the expectation for showing their work means.
This assignment was collected at the end of the period.' We finished early so we tried to watch a Bill Nye the Science Guy video (on Phase Change) but some students were very disruptive and we had to stop the video.

WEDNESDAY 9/04/19 - ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMALSStudents were given the entire class period to complete 12 adding and subtracting decimals problems. We did the first one on the board together after watching a 10 minute Math Antics video (during breakfast) on the content. The worksheet was due at the end of the period.
FRIDAY 8/30/19 - MONTHLY REFLECTION ACTIVITYStudents had a sub (Ms. Willard) today as I had to attend Science Collaboration. Students were given the entire period to work on setting three goals for the month. This activity should have only taken them about 20 minutes so I assigned "Silent Reading/Working" time for the remaining 25 minutes of class.
As you can see, students think it is appropriate to erase their assignments. 8/29/2019 thursday 8/29/19 - agenda distribution and olweus bullying prevention program student slideshowRead NowTHURSDAY 8/29/19 - AGENDA DISTRIBUTION AND OLWEUS BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM STUDENT SLIDESHOWToday students were given their AGENDAs. I discussed with them how to record their LEARNING TARGET and HOMEWORK for each class and that doing so is a required assignment for College Readiness. Agenda Checks will be every Monday.
Students then participated in a whole group discussion of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Slideshow. We did not complete the Slideshow and will do so tomorrow in class. WEDNESDAY 8/28/19 - DECIMALS AND FRACTIONSToday students watched a 10 minute Math Antics video on Decimals and Fractions.
They were then given a worksheet to complete in their small groups that consisted of 8 problems of ordering decimals based on visual representations. We did the first 4 problems together as a whole group and then the students were given the rest of the period to complete the worksheet and turn-in. 8/28/2019 Tuesday 8/27/19 - policy on incomplete and latework with the opportunity to complete work for an improved gradeRead NowTUESDAY 8/27/19 - POLICY ON INCOMPLETE AND LATEWORK WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE WORK FOR AN IMPROVED GRADEToday I discussed the classwork policy with students. Students were informed that classwork is to be completed and turned-in by the end of the period each day. I reiterated that I do not take latework for College Readiness since assignments are designed to be completed in one class period.
I then gave them a one time opportunity to correct their previously bad descisions to not complete their classwork (of course this was only some of the students since many students have completed their assignments with a high degree of quality). I gave students the entire period to work on the three assignments to improve their grade. For the students that had completed their work, they were offered extra credit to work on coloring posters to decorate our room. MONDAY 8/26/19 - LEARNING STYLE ASSESSMENT AND REFLECTIONToday students participated in an activity to assess their learning style. Students were given 45 minutes to complete the assessment and answer two reflection questions. ![]()
FRIDAY 8/23/19 - VENN DIAGRAMS AND PEER PRACTICEToday students were introduced to VENN DIAGRAMS, a graphic organizer used to compare and contrast sets of information.
I provided them with an example on the board that compared me with the two other 7th grade science teachers on campus. After this introduction, I grouped students into groups of three so that they could complete their Venn Diagrams which compared and contrasted themself with two of their peers. Students were asked to provide three bullet points in each of the 7 sections. Students had 40 minutes to complete this assignment which was due at the end of the period. |
