FRIDAY 8/30/19 - MONTHLY REFLECTION ACTIVITY

Students had a sub (Ms. Willard) today as I had to attend Science Collaboration.  Students were given the entire period to work on setting three goals for the month.  This activity should have only taken them about 20 minutes so I assigned "Silent Reading/Working" time for the remaining 25 minutes of class.

As you can see, students think it is appropriate to erase their assignments.

THURSDAY 8/29/19 - AGENDA DISTRIBUTION AND OLWEUS BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM STUDENT SLIDESHOW

Today students were given their AGENDAs. I discussed with them how to record their LEARNING TARGET and HOMEWORK for each class and that doing so is a required assignment for College Readiness.  Agenda Checks will be every Monday.

Students then participated in a whole group discussion of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Slideshow.  We did not complete the Slideshow and will do so tomorrow in class.

WEDNESDAY 8/28/19 - DECIMALS AND FRACTIONS

Today students watched a 10 minute Math Antics video on Decimals and Fractions.

They were then given a worksheet to complete in their small groups that consisted of 8 problems of ordering decimals based on visual representations.  We did the first 4 problems together as a whole group and then the students were given the rest of the period to complete the worksheet and turn-in.

TUESDAY 8/27/19 - POLICY ON INCOMPLETE AND LATEWORK WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE WORK FOR AN IMPROVED GRADE

Today I discussed the classwork policy with students.  Students were informed that classwork is to be completed and turned-in by the end of the period each day.  I reiterated that I do not take latework for College Readiness since assignments are designed to be completed in one class period.

I then gave them a one time opportunity to correct their previously bad descisions to not complete their classwork (of course this was only some of the students since many students have completed their assignments with a high degree of quality).  I gave students the entire period to work on the three assignments to improve their grade.

For the students that had completed their work, they were offered extra credit to work on coloring posters to decorate our room.

FRIDAY 8/23/19 - VENN DIAGRAMS AND PEER PRACTICE

Today students were introduced to VENN DIAGRAMS, a graphic organizer used to compare and contrast sets of information.

I provided them with an example on the board that compared me with the two other 7th grade science teachers on campus.  After this introduction, I grouped students into groups of three so that they could complete their Venn Diagrams which compared and contrasted themself with two of their peers.  Students were asked to provide three bullet points in each of the 7 sections.

Students had 40 minutes to complete this assignment which was due at the end of the period.
