Today I gave the students a thorough lesson on ACADEMIC INTEGRITY.
After reviewing the student submissions for I #8 Natural Resource Research Project, it became obvious that students were not citing their sources and violating the HSD's Academic Integrity policies.
I have asked students to complete the "Academic Integrity Worksheet" after participating in a whole group discussion of the PowerPoint presentation provided to me by our Dean of Students, Mr. Takata.
I have also asked students to complete a chart on the back of the worksheet which details their Academic Integrity violations on their project (I #8) as well as what they should have done differently to have Academic Integrity. I am asking students to do this assignment as a reflective experience instead of issuing the consequences of a ZERO on this project and referral to administration. If this assignment is completed with Academic Integrity, I will grade their I #8 project and not issue consequences for the violations of HSD policy.
