Unfortunately, I erased our board today before I took a picture!
Learning Target: I will investigate the color changing properties of Bromothymol Blue (BTB) to help me design my procedures for LAB #9.
HW: Make sure Pre-Lab #9 Cornell Notes are COMPLETE!
Today I performed a demonstration of the color changing properties of BTB in the presence of Carbon Dioxide and in the absence of Carbon Dioxide. The students then worked in pairs to replicate this demo. The goal for students today was to understand how to use the BTB (and the other lab supplies we practiced with today) and why we use the BTB. This understanding will then help them design a lab to test their assigned scientific question.
I will be out tomorrow due to a mandatory all-day conference (YAWN!) that I must attend. Students will work in their groups to write down detailed lab procedures for their specific LAB #9 scientific question. While we discussed these procedures as a whole group today, I expect that this will be a difficult task but believe that the students are up to the challenge and am excited to see what they come up with when I return on Monday.
