Today students worked toward answering the essential question for Investigation #12, "How is matter organized in the universe" by engaging in a hands-out activity that asked them to categorize 20 different types of candy based on criteria that they decided upon within their small groups. The only requirements were that they must have at least four different categories and no more than six.
After the students completed their task I checked their work and asked them to take a picture and email it to me for our Whole Group debrief tomorrow.
Students were to then complete a mini-model of their Periodic Table of Candy on a separate sheet of paper using the cut-and-paste provided. If this cut-and-paste was not completed in class it is to be completed for homework.
Tomorrow we will debrief about the process, answer some reflection questions, and parlay our learning into a deeper understanding of the Periodic Table of Elements.
