FRIDAY 9/29/17 - LAB #3: STOPPING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE USING THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD (avid strategy - cornell notes)
Today students began conducting an investigation into how to stop the "Zombie Apocalypse" using the Scientific Method. This lab uses a graphic novel (comic book) and a plastic Zombie model (which can be dissected) to introduce the steps of the Scientific Method and how to apply them to solve a problem. The lab also introduces students to the concepts of bacteria, viruses, antibiotics, vaccines, blood, internal organs, the skin, the lymphatic system, nervous system, brain, qualitative and quantitative observations/data, and using data to make scientific inferences. I have provided students with guided notes (Cornell Note style) to model for them how to take detailed notes. As we conclude this lab, we will use Bloom's Taxonomy and Costa's Levels of Thinking to craft higher order thinking questions to complete our Cornell Notes. This will help students understand the expectations for future note taking sessions.
Side note: Students were extremely respectful and conducted themselves with maturity today. It was truly my pleasure to spend the day with them and help facilitate their learning. They were AWESOME and I'm looking forward to Monday!
