Today students copied the class data table into their notebooks and then I gave them a tutorial on creating a multi-bar graph. The multi-bar graph is to be glued-in as a flip-up above the data table on page 58 of the ISN.
Today students were given a four page packet on how to make, use, and interpret graphs in science. We read the first page together as a PopCorn Read-Aloud and Marked the Text and Wrote in the Margins. Next we poled our class for favorite dessert types and then graphed our data together. Period 4 was not able to do the class activity due to behavior issues - they were asked to graph the data from Period 3.
Students then had 20 minutes to continue working on the graphing packet in their small groups. This assignment will be due on 12/04/19 when ISN Check 10 is due.
Today students had a substitute teacher.
Students were asked to complete the States of Matter Doodle Notes with color and turn them in by the end of the period. This assignment should have taken no more than 20 minutes to complete (class sets of completed examples were provided to them).
In addition to this. students were given a States of Matter Color by Number to complete and glue-in their ISN.
Both of these assignments are to help prepare students for the Performance Task which has been moved to Wednesday, 11/20/19.

THURSDAY 11/14/19 - PERFORMANCE TASK PREPARATION (PHASE CHANGE - STRUCTURES AND PROPERTIES OF MATTER)
******Wrong Dates Written on Board*******
This is for 11/14/19 - NOT 11/15/19 (sorry - and NO students caught the mistake all day)!
ALSO, they are scheduled to take the Performance task on Monday, 11/18/19 - not 11/19.
Today students prepared their ISNs for Trimester 2 by writing down some of the important dates and reviewing our units of study.
We then watched Bill Nye's Phase Change episode, while taking guided notes, to help us prepare for taking the Structures and Properties of Matter Performance Task (this is practice for the 8th grade CAST test). I am collecting data (no student names are attached to the data submitted) to help LACOE and West ED calibrate question formatting and scoring rubrics.
Today students had a sub while I attended the LACOE/West Ed Performance Task Project of South Bay Cities on behalf of the District Office.
Students took Part 1 of their Trimester 1 Final Exam.
