MONDAY 10/29/18 I #5: MICROSCOPY LAB MICROSCOPE MADNESSToday students completed the Microscopy Lab, Investigation #5 (I #5). I projected the answers to the lab questions as well as clear pictures of the "e" on the low and medium objectives to give students more time to practice with the microscopes.
Their homework is to create a SIX WORD MEMOIR CREATIVE OUTPUT (on image inversion in optics) by researching the question: Why do images INVERT when looking through the microscope? This homework is not due until 11/07/18 with ISN Check 04. FINAL EXAM for Trimester 1 = 11/05/18 and 11/06/18 LAST DAY for LATE WORK for Trimester 1 = 11/09/18 (thanks MAAZ for typo correction I owe you $20 Batt Bucks) FRIDAY 10/26/18 I #5: MICROSCOPY LAB******This LAB is not due until the END of the PERIOD on MONDAY! We will complete it in class on Monday*****
Today we worked on Investigation #5 Microscopy Lab. I demonstrated for students how to wet mount a specimen on a slide. Each student was then to practice getting the specimen (the newspaper "e") into focus using the low objective and the middle objective. Students needed to write their hypothesis and complete their observations (modeling what they saw) today. We will complete this lab Monday in class and it will be due by the end of the period. Below are pictures of one of the newspaper "e" specimens under the Low Objective (first picture) and the Middle Objective (second picture). THURSDAY 10/25/18 I#5: MICROSCOPE LAB (PRELAB)Today students participted in PEER REVIEW of ISN Check 03. Students were required to turnin their ISN by the end of the period.
After Peer Review, we completed the PreLab for I#5: Microscopy Lab. This PreLab is required to be completed to particpate in I#5 tomorrow (10/26/18). WEDNESDAY 10/24/18 QUIZ #2: SCIENTIFIC METHOD (CCC #2, CCC#5, AND I#4)Today students took an 11 question quiz. This quiz was open note and students had at least 30+ minutes to complete it.
ISN Check 03 and I#4 submission have been postponed until tomorrow, 10/25/18. Please check yesterday's blog for pictures of Mrs. Batt's completed ISN. TUESDAY 10/23/18 ISN CLEANUP AND INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CONFERENCES******Posted Late on 10/24/18****** Since I posted this late, I postponed the due date for ISN Check 03 to 10/25/18 even though students had these Creative Outputs assigned on 10/19/18. Today students had the entire period to work toward completing ISN Check 03 and Investigation #4. No new assignments were given. While students worked on their missing/incomplete work, I called students to my desk to conference with them about their gardes, missing and incomplete work, and Investigation #4. MONDAY 10/22/18 ISN CHECK 03 CLEANUP DAYToday students were given the entire period to work toward completing I#4 and ISN Check 03.
There were no new assignments given today. The expectation was that students would complete at least two of their assignments and/or work on EXTRA CREDIT if they were finished with all of ISN Check 03. While students worked, I called individual students to my desk for private conferences on the status of their I #4 which is due Wednesday. Students were counciled on what they needed to finish and what they have not yet turnedin. FRIDAY 10/19/18 I#4 DATA ANALYSIS, CONCLUSION AND REFLECTION******Posted Late on 10/22/18*******
Today in class students were given pages 910 of I #4. Page 9 consisted of 8 Data Analysis questions which we answered together in class. Most periods had 15+ minutes to work on answering their Conclusion and Reflection questions on page 10. Students were encouraged to turnin their completed page 910 by the end of the period for feedback. THURSDAY 10/18/18 I#4: GRAPHING 7TH GRADE DATAToday students were given the 7th Grade Class Data Table for I#4. I gave them a tutorial on graphing and modeled how to graph at least 2 sets of Bag Data for each period. We also discussed the concept of "outliers" and determined how to graph our outlier data. Many students were able to complete their graph and turnedit in for feedback. These students had 10+ minutes to work on their CREATIVE OUTPUT (Scientific Method FlowChart) for ISN Check 03. The MYSTERY BAG 7th Grade Class Data is attached below as a PDF (copying this data table is an EXTRA CREDIT assignment on ISN Check 03)!
10/17/2018 wednesday 10/17/18 I#4 Collecting class data on Inferences (day 2) and isn check 03 assignedRead NowWEDNESDAY 10/17/18 I#4 COLLECTING CLASS DATA ON INFERENCES (DAY 2) AND ISN CHECK 03 ASSIGNEDToday students completed sharing out their inferences supported by the observational data. I completed the data table which we will graph tomorrow. Students were asked to turnin their Inference Evaluations (page 7) of I#4 at the end of the period for feedback and grading. ISN Check 03 was assigned today. Student worked was passedback to them. ISN Check 3 is attached below as a file as well as the AVID Awesome LEFT SIDES for Creative Output directions/instructions in case students have lost them (or for ease of reference). All Creative OUtputs are due on 10/24/18 with ISN Check 03. Students will be given an ISN CleanUp day on either Monday or Tuesday. On ISN Cleanup days I hold individual student conferences about missing/incomplete work while students are given the entire 48 minute period to work on having their ISN ready for ISN Check 03.
