Today students took an open note quiz on the material covered in ISN Check 04. They were also asked to copy the UNIT 1: Nature of Science CER into their notebooks on page 16.
All late work for the Progress Report is due tomorrow.
Today students were given a tutorial on how to complete TWO different types of Creative Output (CO) for the ISN left side pages.
First, we reveiwed the steps of the scientific method by creating a CONCEPT MAP on page 14 of the ISN.
Next, students were given a tutorial on how to create a SIX WORD MEMOIR assignment. We watched a short BrainPop! video and did a short BrainPop! reading to collect information about the Scanning Electron Microscope. We then used this information to write a six word memoir assignment. Students need to complete their six word memoir assignment with a picture, color, and a 3-5 sentence explanation. I took one of the six word memoirs written in class today and created a Google Doc of the completed assignment which I printed out and colored. THIS IS NOT A HANDOUT THAT THE STUDENT WILL RECEIVE...they must create their Creative Output (which does not have to be computer generated).
ISN Check 05 was assigned today and is due on Wednesday, 10/02/19.
Progress Reports are go home on 10/03/19. All late work for Trimester 1 (the first 1/2) is due by 10/01/19 for consideration on the Progress Report.
********Sub while I attended a District Office meeting********
Today students were given a reading on the steps of the Scientific Method. They were to apply the strategies of Marking the Text, Writing in the Margins, and answering the questions on the back of the worksheet.
This assignment is PASS/FAIL credit for the day. Either students were on-task and completed the assignment or they were not. The sub-report indicated that most students were NOT on-task and the lack of work submitted supported this.
Students may complete the assignment for their ISN Check 05 and recieve for credit for completion there, however, participation credit for the sub day cannot be made-up. REMEMBER - extra credit is always available on ISN Checks and students can remediate for their grade by doing the extra credit.
Today students were to participate in Peer Review of ISN Check 04 assigned 9/20/19 and due today.
Students that did not do ISN Check 04 (and/or did not turn it in) have recieved a ZERO in PowerSchool.
We could not take our quiz today because so many students did not come prepared to class. Instead, students that did not have ISN Check 04 completed were given the entire period to work on their late work.
Quiz #3 will be given on Friday, 9/27/19 in place of Lab #5 which will now, sadly, be forgone to catch-up on classtime.
Period 5 will be receiving extra ClassDojo rewards because every student responsible for turning-in the ISN Check (all 41 of them) turned it in! Great job period 5!!!
Today we answered all lab questions on Investigation #4: Microscope Lab as a whole group discussion.
Some classes had 20 minutes of time after turning-in their completed lab to work on ISN Check 04, others had less due to behavior issues.
ISN Check 04 is due tomorrow.
Students will take Quiz #3 tomorrow.
Today students worked on Investigation #4: Microscope Lab. Students that has STILL NOT COMPLETED the Pre-Lab (assigned 9/11/19) were given and alternative assignment.
Students working on the lab worked in their small groups to practice with the microscope and answer questions 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 today.
We will complete the lab tomorrow in class as a whole group and it will be due by the end of the period.
Today students used the Microscope you complete their models for I #4. We will complete this lab on Monday and Tuesday. It is due Tuesday, 9/24/19, by the end of the period.
ISN Check 04 was also assigned. Students will have about 20 minutes in class on Tuesday to work on ISN Check 04. (attached below)
Today students participated in a whole group discussion about writing a CER (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning) statement for Science. We watched a short commercial and then approached the CER as Crime Scene Investigation.
After this, students worked in their small groups to prepare a wet-mount slide of a newsprint "e" to use with the Microscope tomorrow in I#4 Microscope "e" Lab.
PICTURES to be posted tomorrow (my phone is not holding a charge).
Today students Peer Reviewed ISN Check 03 and turned-in their scores.
Students were also given a Nature of Science Color By Number and asked to create a Unit 1 Title page on ISN page #1.
