Thursday 8/31/17 - textbook discovery
Today the Life Science textbooks were distributed and assigned in class. The students were asked to complete a "Textbook Discovery" assignment (see below for details). This assignment was to be completed in class and turned-in. Students were given 35+ minutes of class time to complete this assignment.
1) Any assignment not completed during class becomes homework.
2) Students need to have their notebook for their Interactive Science Notebook (ISN) by Friday, 9/01/17.
Students were given the first 10 minutes of class to complete their Classmate Interview worksheet which they started yesterday in class.
Students were asked to decorate their Equity Stick and complete their Science Square worksheet by answering the questions and decorating it. Students had 30 minutes of class time to complete this assignment (both were due at the end of the period).
Any assignment not completed in class becomes homework.
Students need to have their notebook for their ISN by FRIDAY, 9/01/17.
Monday 8/28/17 - VENN DIAGRAMS AND GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER
Today we discussed how to use a Venn Diagram as well as participated in some "Getting to Know Each Other" activities.
I asked students to draw a Venn Diagram and write down what they are used for as a Warm-Up. We then had a class discussion about Venn Diagrams and created two examples on the whiteboard (see below) so that students understood how to use the double and triple circle Venn Diagrams. Students were to take notes by adding to their Warm-Up.
After we completed our examples, the students were asked to do the Social Circles activity and record their findings in the Venn Diagram provided to them. We then paired-up and worked on interviewing each other.
The Warm-Up was turned-in at the end of the period but we will finish our Classmate Interview tomorrow.
NOTE: I misspelled ENDOSKELETON and nobody caught me!
Friday 8/25/17 - BATT BUCKS AND BATTY4SCIENCE.COM
Today we reviewed how to access and use Mrs. Batt's website, Batty4Science.com.
We discussed how to use the Science Blog and reviewed the Classroom Information (including the Grading Policy, Science Supplies, and Course Objective/Goals).
We watched the Batt Bucks presentation and discussed how to earn and spend Batt Bucks.
Mrs. Batt also discussed why she would prefer us to get the Yoobi Poly Cover Notebook.
Parents/Guardians: Please review the Classroom Information and Batt Bucks pages on this website for more information.
Thursday 8/24/17 - CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND GETTING TO KNOW YOU
Today we discussed how discipline will be handled in this class including the expectations about Behavior Chips (Stop Chips, Cool Down Chips, and Right Choice Chips) and Detention Slips.
We also discussed how absent work will be handled using the "While You Were Out Form...".
The Science Safety Contract was given to students to have them review it with a Parent/Guardian and have it signed and returned by Monday, 8/28/17.
Students were also asked to complete the "All About Me" and the "Tell The Teacher" getting to know you worksheets. I have asked students to attach a picture to the "All About Me" hexagon to help me to get to know them better. If students cannot print a picture they may email their picture to me with a request to print it for them. The "All About Me" and "Tell The Teacher" worksheets are also due on Monday, 8/28/17.
Please see the attached for more information.
